Basketball Recap: Cristo Rey St. Martin Takes a Loss

The matchup between Cristo Rey St. Martin and Willows Academy on Thursday hardly resembled the 42-5 effort from their previous meeting. The Cristo Rey St. Martin CRSM were dealt an 89-47 defeat at the hands of the Willows Academy Eagles. The CRSM were probably out for revenge after losing 42-5 to them when the teams met back in November of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Cristo Rey St. Martin still got an impressive performance from Alexy Chapa, who shot 5-for-9 from long range and dropped a double-double on 35 points and ten boards. That was a full 74.5% of Cristo Rey St. Martin's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

This is the second loss in a row for Cristo Rey St. Martin and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Willows Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Cristo Rey St. Martin won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Schaumburg Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cristo Rey St. Martin is facing Schaumburg Christian at the right time seeing as Schaumburg Christian is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Willows Academy, they will square off against Dyett at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Willows Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Dyett likes a good challenge.
