Baseball Game Preview: Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes vs. Oconee County Warriors

Monroe Area is 2-8 against Oconee County since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Purple Hurricanes will host the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Monroe Area will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Jefferson, who they had gone 0-8 against in their eight prior meetings. The Purple Hurricanes narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Dragons 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Purple Hurricanes have posted since February 18th.

Ayden Tabone looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Andrew Chappell was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

Meanwhile, Oconee County was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Cherokee Bluff. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by just one run.

Oconee County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Monroe Area, their win bumped their record up to 9-14.
