Baseball Game Preview: Monsignor Pace Spartans vs. Belen Jesuit Wolverines

The Monsignor Pace Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Belen Jesuit Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Monsignor Pace 4.1, Belen Jesuit 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Monsignor Pace easily dispatched Palmer Trinity last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Monsignor Pace fell just short of St. Brendan by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Spartans couldn't push the score so high this time.

Aiden Rivero was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Monsignor Pace saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Yuniel Paredes, who went 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Paredes hit this season.

Meanwhile, Belen Jesuit might've scored the first runs on Tuesday, but it was Killian who claimed the real prize. Belen Jesuit fell just short of Killian by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wolverines have suffered since May 7, 2024.

Monsignor Pace's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7. As for Belen Jesuit, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.

Monsignor Pace came out on top in a nail-biter against Belen Jesuit in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monsignor Pace since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
