On Saturday, it was close, but Shenandoah sidestepped Evansville Day for a 46-44 victory. Given Shenandoah's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while Evansville Day is ranked 351st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shenandoah found their leader in underclassman Jonny Howard, who went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 5 assists. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Zane Mitchell, who scored six points along with six assists.
Shenandoah's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Evansville Day, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.
Shenandoah will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Liberty Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Liberty Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday. Evansville Day will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Carmi-White County at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Carmi-White County is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
