Baseball Recap: Montrose Comes Up Short

Montrose dropped their record down to 7-6 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Elk Lake Warriors, falling 9-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 two weeks ago.

Montrose saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hudson Aukema, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Aukema is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

As for Elk Lake, their record now sits at 11-2. Considering they have won nine contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Elk Lake's side, Braydon McMicken made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. McMicken was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Noah Gesford was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Brayden Miller also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montrose will head out to face off against Mountain View at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Meteors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Elk Lake, they will head out on the road to take on Carbondale Area at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
