Football Preview: Cerritos Dons vs. Pioneer Titans
Cerritos and Pioneer are an even 4-4 against one another since September of 2014, but not for long. The Cerritos Dons will play host again on Thursday to welcome the Pioneer Titans, where kickoff is scheduled at 7:00 p.m. Cerritos will be strutting in after a win while Pioneer will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, Cerritos beat Don Lugo 31-24.
Cerritos can attribute much of their success to Justin Sagun, who threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes, and also rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown. Sagun got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 55 yards. Ruben Castro also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Meanwhile, Pioneer came up short against Rowland on Friday and fell 32-21.
Pioneer wouldn't let Rowland keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Jose Rojas was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance.
Cerritos' victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Pioneer, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Everything came up roses for Cerritos against Pioneer in their previous meeting back in October of 2023, as the team secured a 55-0 win. Will Cerritos repeat their success, or does Pioneer have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
