Alexander hasn't had much luck against Wheelersburg recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Pirates at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Alexander comes in on nine and Wheelersburg on 11.
Alexander will bounce into Saturday's contest after beating Westfall, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Spartans put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 3-0 win on Wednesday.
While Alexander won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-19, 25-22.
Alexander can attribute much of their success to Abbi Ohms, who had 17 digs and two assists.
Meanwhile, Wheelersburg got the win against Huntington on Wednesday by a conclusive 3-0.
Wheelersburg's got stronger as the match went on, holding Huntington to fewer and fewer points set over set. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-14, 25-12.
Alexander's record now sits at 21-3. As for Wheelersburg, their record is now an identical 21-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's match: Alexander has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 10.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Wheelersburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Alexander might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Wheelersburg when the teams last played back in October of 2021. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
