Softball Recap: Pine Tree Has No Trouble Against Kilgore

Pine Tree's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Kilgore Bulldogs. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pirates considering their one-run performance the match before.

Nia Woodson was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on E.K. Holder, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zamoria Smith, who scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Pine Tree's win bumped their record up to 9-15-1. As for Kilgore, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pine Tree will challenge Carthage at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Kilgore, they will face off against Spring Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.11 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
