Basketball Recap: Bear River Takes a Loss

Bear River and Mountain Crest squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Bear River had to settle for second. They took a hard 53-34 fall against the Mountain Crest Mustangs. The defeat continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now lost five in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Bear River lost, don't look at Brooklyn Capener. Despite the final result, she posted eight points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. That's the most boards Capener has posted since back in November of 2024. Aubree Fry also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Mountain Crest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sage Walker led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Leighton Pratt was another key player, putting up six points along with seven boards and five steals.

Bear River's loss dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Mountain Crest, they pushed their record up to 15-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Bear River does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mountain Crest, they will face off against Desert Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Crest is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season.
