The Omaha Westside Warriors will square off against the Bellevue East Chieftains on Monday. Omaha Westside's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Bellevue East's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Omaha Westside's tournament run continued when they took on Lincoln Southwest on Friday. The Warriors took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Silver Hawks. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Silver Hawks: they've now lost three in a row.
Omaha Westside saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Markus Chandler, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bellevue East, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Blair on Saturday as they made off with a 15-2 victory. The Chieftains might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Ricky Scarpello made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Scarpello was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brody Graham was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Cayden Hansen was another key player, scoring three runs.
Bellevue East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .524. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
With the win, Bellevue East broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-7. As for Omaha Westside, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
Omaha Westside came out on top in a nail-biter against Bellevue East in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chieftains turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
