Softball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Stone's Ninth in Last 12 Outings

Stone won the last time they faced Wayne County and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Tomcats blew past the War Eagles 19-2. The Tomcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Mattie Gibson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kahlen Vaughn was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Raeghan Williams was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Stone always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Stone is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Wayne County, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-18-1.

Stone does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wayne County, they will square off against Vancleave at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
