Preview: Morehead Panthers vs. Reidsville Rams

Two dominant guards in Makel Smith and Dionte Neal are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Morehead Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Reidsville Rams at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Morehead came up short against Walkertown and fell 84-74. While losing is never fun, Morehead can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Walkertown is ranked 96th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Smith, who went 7 for 16 from beyond the arc en route to 35 points and 2 assists. He has been hot recently, having posted 23 or more points the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Seth Sharpe, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Meanwhile, Reidsville put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by a 77-56 margin over McMichael. Reidsville has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Morehead dropped their record down to 12-9 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Reidsville, their victory bumped their record up to 20-0.

Morehead took a serious blow against Reidsville in their previous meeting back in January, falling 86-52. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Reidsville's Kendre Harrison, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 16 rebounds. Now that Morehead knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
