Basketball Game Preview: Colton Wildcats vs. Pomeroy Pirates

Colton is 1-9 against Pomeroy since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Colton Wildcats will get right back to it and host the Pomeroy Pirates at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Colton is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They were beaten by Asotin 60-29. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 376th, while the Panthers are ranked 91st).

Meanwhile, Pomeroy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 47-42 to Garfield-Palouse.

Colton will need focus on slowing down Cesar Morfin, one of several Pomeroy players who made an impact when they last played. He went 5 for 11 on his way to 14 points. The dominant performance gave Morfin a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kyzer Herres, who went 5 of 7 en route to 11 points and six rebounds.

Colton's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Pomeroy, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7.

Colton took a serious blow against Pomeroy when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 67-17. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Colton was down 36-6.
