Preview: Heritage Hills Patriots vs. Gibson Southern Titans
Heritage Hills is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Gibson Southern is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Heritage Hills Patriots will take on the Gibson Southern Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Heritage Hills walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Batesville on Friday and snuck past 24-21.
Heritage Hills found their leader in underclassman Jett Goldsberry, who rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, and also threw for 84 yards and a touchdown. Goldsberry's longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards. Tyler Ruxer did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 87 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Gibson Southern gave up the first points last Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They took down Tri-West Hendricks 38-21.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Tanner Boyd and Malachi Walden. Boyd had a great game and rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Walden was balling out in the loss, rushing for 214 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also throwing for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Heritage Hills' win bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Gibson Southern, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.
Heritage Hills couldn't quite finish off Gibson Southern in their previous meeting back in September and fell 31-28. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gibson Southern's Sean DeLong, who rushed for 171 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also picked up 59 receiving yards.
