Basketball Recap: New Castle Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Piper Arthur and Carlee Lanzer

New Castle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. The contest between them and the Wapahani Raiders didn't end well, with the New Castle Trojans falling 48-33. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 257th, while the Raiders are ranked 88th).

Carlee Lanzer and Piper Arthur certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Lanzer posted 11 points, while Arthur earned nine points and three steals.

Wapahani's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emily Luce, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 20 points along with seven assists and four steals. Luce is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 26 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Carpenter, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

New Castle's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Wapahani, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season.

New Castle didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-44 loss against Eastern Hancock on the 14th. As for Wapahani, they will square off against Daleville at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th.
