Maddie Holzer made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Holzer wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Oliviah Valdez, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Kailey Begay also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Nogales was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Desert View, falling 22-3.
Walden Grove has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Nogales, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.
Nogales' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Walden Grove has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Nogales, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 strikeouts. Will Walden Grove keep running through batters, or will the Apaches buck the trend?
Everything went Walden Grove's way against Nogales in their previous matchup back in March of 2019, as Walden Grove made off with a 13-1 victory. Will the Red Wolves repeat their success, or do the Apaches have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
