Softball Recap: Jefferson Drops Season-High Score on Delavan-Darien

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jefferson). They never let the Delavan-Darien Comets get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Tuesday. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Bre Mengel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Mengel was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Chloe Smith was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Merranda Frank, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

The victory was the third in a row for Jefferson, bringing their record up to 11-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Delavan-Darien, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Jefferson will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Comets: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
