Softball Game Preview: Cairo-Durham Mustangs vs. Watervliet Cannoneers

The Cairo-Durham Mustangs are taking a road trip to face off against the Watervliet Cannoneers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Cairo-Durham is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

On Monday, Cairo-Durham didn't have quite enough to beat Hunter-Tannersville and fell 6-4.

Germantown hit Watervliet with a five-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cannoneers fell just short of the Clippers by a score of 10-9. The Cannoneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Madalyn Wells stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Donnelly, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Cairo-Durham's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Watervliet, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Cairo-Durham suffered a grim 15-3 defeat to Watervliet when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
