Basketball Recap: Bayne Bernal Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Holtville

Southwest EC hadn't done well against Holtville recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Southwest EC Eagles strolled past the Holtville Vikings with points to spare, taking the game 64-50. The Eagles didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.

Southwest EC got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bayne Bernal out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Gonzalez, who posted 19 points and three steals.

Southwest EC's victory bumped their record up to 6-18. As for Holtville, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwest EC won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.8 points per game this season. As for Holtville, they will head out on the road to challenge Palo Verde Valley at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th.
