Softball Recap: Mission Bay Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Mission Bay extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping them up to 13-5. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Coronado Islanders 2-0. The Buccaneers' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matchups.

Not much got past Abby Nelson, who gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks to keep Coronado off the board. Nelson has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mission Bay's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Audrey Fernandez, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Coronado, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-9-1. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only two runs.

On Coronado's side, Quinn Smock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits.
