Baseball Recap: Cranston East Takes a Loss

Cranston East had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-14 to make it four. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pilgrim Patriots. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-2 on Wednesday.

As for Pilgrim, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games.

For Pilgrim's part, Tyler Boudreau looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Boudreau has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Pilgrim saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Wellington, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base. The Patriots are 2-1 when Wellington posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise.

Coming up, Cranston East will be playing in front of their home fans against Johnston at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Pilgrim, they will head out to take on Cumberland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
