Preview: McDonald County Mustangs vs. Neosho Wildcats
McDonald County is 2-8 against Neosho since November of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The McDonald County Mustangs will be playing at home against the Neosho Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (McDonald County has five straight victories, Neosho has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
McDonald County put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They blew past Adrian 62-40. Given McDonald County's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while Adrian is ranked 211th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McDonald County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Roslynn Huston led the charge by scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Carlee Cooper, who scored 12 points along with seven assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Neosho was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 57-52 to Parkview.
McDonald County's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Neosho, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Everything came up roses for McDonald County against Neosho when the teams last played back in November of 2023 as the squad secured a 58-22 victory. Does McDonald County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Neosho turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
