Baseball Recap: Fayetteville Sets Scoring Season-High Against Round Top-Carmine

It's playoff time, and Fayetteville had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over the Round Top-Carmine Cubs on Thursday. The Lions' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Chance Konvicka was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kandon Kaspar was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Schley, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple.

Fayetteville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Fayetteville's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Round Top-Carmine, they now have a losing record of 13-14.

Coming up, Fayetteville will square off against Brookeland at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. Round Top-Carmine does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
