Marshall is 6-1 against Whitehouse since November of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mavericks will host the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Marshall knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Whitehouse likes a good challenge.
Whitehouse better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if Marshall's game on Friday is any indication, that's when Marshall really gets things going. The Mavericks simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hallsville 47-17. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 29, 2021, but that streak is no more.
It was another big night for Alton Henderson, who rushed for 212 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 13.3 yards per carry, and also threw for 103 yards on six of 11 attempts. He showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 58 yards. Another player making a difference was Denijh Montgomery, who rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Marshall was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 363 rushing yards. They are a perfect 6-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Marshall's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Whitehouse challenged Hallsville last Friday. The Wildcats took a 13-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bobcats. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Marshall pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.7 points over those games. As for Whitehouse, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Marshall has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 251.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Whitehouse struggles in that department as they've been averaging 185.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything went Marshall's way against Whitehouse in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as Marshall made off with a 28-7 win. Do the Mavericks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
