Softball Game Preview: Winthrop Vikings vs. Gloucester Fishermen

Winthrop is 0-10 against Gloucester since May of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Vikings will host the Fishermen at 4:30 p.m.

Winthrop is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They came up short against Swampscott, falling 8-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Vikings were not able to get on the board.

Winthrop saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Deanna Nee, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Gloucester strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Saugus 10-2. The result was nothing new for the Fishermen, who have now won three games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Gloucester's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Winthrop, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Winthrop might still be hurting after the 17-1 defeat they got from Gloucester in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
