Basketball Recap: Alcovy Drops Season-High Score on Heritage

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alcovy). They took down the Heritage Patriots 59-45 on Saturday. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Alcovy found their leader in freshman Milani Baughns, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Baughns also set a new season-high mark in shooting accuracy with 60%. Simaria Wilburn was another key player, putting up eight points and six steals.

Alcovy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 26 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Heritage lost, don't look at Amara Humphries. Despite the final result, she went 6-for-15 en route to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mckenzie Latimore, who posted four points and five boards.

Alcovy's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Alcovy has already played their next matchup, a 52-22 victory against Redan on the 9th. As for Heritage, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 47-28 defeat against Grovetown on the 9th.
