Basketball Recap: The Burlington School Spartans vs. Caldwell Academy Eagles
The Burlington School and Caldwell Academy squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but The Burlington School had to settle for second. They lost 73-51 to the Caldwell Academy Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 73-60 back in January.
Despite the loss, The Burlington School still got an impressive performance from Kaden Hammond, who shot 53% from the field en route to 21 points and six boards. What's more, Hammond posted three assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Cam Flippen was another key player, putting up nine points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Caldwell Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Neal Swindell led the charge by going 9-for-10 to rack up 20 points and seven boards. Swindell is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Cross, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 19 rebounds.
The Burlington School's loss dropped their record down to 19-12. As for Caldwell Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-9 record this season.
