Basketball Recap: Schuyler Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Schuyler unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 59-41 bruising from the Madison Dragons on Thursday. The Warriors just can't catch a break and have now endured 21 losses in a row dating back to last season.

Schuyler lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Iker Lara, who posted 11 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Lara a new career-high in boards (four). Johnny Nava was another key player, putting up six points.

Madison's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jose Velez, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 15 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Bodonn Sweeney, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Schuyler didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-42 defeat against Cedar Bluffs on the 6th. As for Madison, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-48 loss against Clarkson/Leigh on the 7th.
