Baseball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Merino

There's no place like home for Merino, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Akron 5-4 on Saturday. Merino has seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw Akron, too.

Coen Schmidt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Merino saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zachary Mackintosh, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Mackintosh launched this season. Another was Tyler Everhart, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Merino pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Akron, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Akron beat Merino by a score of 11-6 later that day.
