Basketball Game Preview: Desert Christian Eagles vs. Morenci Wildcats

The Desert Christian Eagles will head out to challenge the Morenci Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Desert Christian comes in on ten and Morenci on five.

If Morenci heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Desert Christian took over last week. Desert Christian walked away with a 49-36 win over St. David on Saturday. The 49-point effort marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Tyson Dobbins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a triple-double on 23 points, ten boards, and 11 steals. His afternoon made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Samuel Nwosu was another key player, going 5 for 7 en route to 10 points and eight rebounds.

Desert Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Morenci beat St. Johns 57-45 on Saturday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Redskins are ranked 235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Desert Christian has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.2 points per game. As for Morenci, they pushed their record up to 17-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

Desert Christian came up short against Morenci in their previous matchup back in January of 2016, falling 41-34. Can Desert Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
