Basketball Recap: Salome Falls Despite Big Games from Brianna Thomas and Grecia Leon

Salome was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Phoenix Christian Cougars. The Frogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 43-31.

Salome's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Grecia Leon, who went 8 for 14 on her way to 21 points and six rebounds, and Brianna Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Thomas is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Myranda Cruz, who posted five points and three steals.

Salome's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Phoenix Christian, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-5.

Salome wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 41-33 loss against Estrella Foothills on the 4th. As for Phoenix Christian, they will face off against San Tan Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Phoenix Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
