Basketball Game Preview: Houghton Gremlins vs. West Iron County Wykons

After both having extra time off, the Houghton Gremlins and the West Iron County Wykons will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Houghton has five straight wins, West Iron County has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Friday, Houghton blew past L'Anse, posting a 74-46 victory. The Gremlins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 25 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, West Iron County was beaten by Kingsford 75-33 two weeks ago. While losing is never fun, the Wykons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 573rd, while the Flivvers are ranked tenth).

Houghton pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 36 points. As for West Iron County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Everything came up roses for Houghton against West Iron County in their previous matchup back in January, as the squad secured a 77-35 victory. Does Houghton have another victory up their sleeve, or will West Iron County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
