6A District 1 recap October 8, 2013
Henderson County was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after a bye. The Colonels came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
McCracken County extended the longest winning streak in 6A District 1 this week by beating Graves County, 63-30. The win marks fourth in a row for the McCracken County.
Orville Haskins' team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Zyaire Hughes threw for 232 and 2 touchdowns and Rasheed Jones had 94 yards receiving. On the ground Jordan Troutman chipped in 275 yards. Morgan Alexander helped McCracken County's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 61 yards.
Troutman was a beast in the backfield as McCracken County topped the Eagles.
He went 17-28 with 0 interceptions.
Brett Sorrels made the biggest impact on defense this week as Daviess County defeated South Warren. The 5-foot-9 junior recorded 1 fumble and racked up 2 sacks.
Jones was the best receiver in the league this week as McCracken County topped Graves County. Jones tallied 8 receptions for 94 yards. Alexander helped McCracken County's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 61 yards.
Hughes has thrown for 1,576 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Jones has 35 catches for 437 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Henderson County takes on the Panthers. Tony Lewis' team is in first place, while Daviess County is in third place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Colonels take on Marcus Kimbrell's team. Henderson County has allowed 93 points this season, while the Panthers have given up 118.
Daviess County and South Warren played the most contested game in 6A District 1 this week, with Daviess County eventually emerging with a 8-3 victory. Chase Lecroy ran for 33 yards and caught 3 passes for 66 yards during the win.
