Softball Preview: Westran Meets North Shelby

The Westran Hornets will square off against the North Shelby Raiders on Monday.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Westran and Community have met recently (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Hornets lost 13-5 to the Trojans.

Westran saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charley Starr, who went 3-for-4 while logging 2 stolen bases, 2 RBIs, and 1 double. The two RBIs were her most since at least September 29th last year, when she brought in two vs. Community.

Westran took advantage of their speed and finished the game with nine stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases they have managed all season.

Meanwhile, North Shelby came tearing into Thursday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Indians get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.

North Shelby has now won 16 of their last 17 games on the road. That gives them an 11-3 record this season. Those road victories were due in large part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those 17 games. As for Westran, they have now lost eight of their last 10 games at home. That leaves them at an 8-12 record this season.
