Football Recap: Brookhaven Academy Takes a Loss

After soaring to 38 points the game before, Brookhaven Academy was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They had to suffer through a 42-7 loss at the hands of the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 128th, while the Patriots are ranked second).

A big part of Madison-Ridgeland Academy's victory came down to the chemistry between Samuel Stockett and his top target Case Thomas. Stockett threw for 205 yards and three TDs on perfect 11-for-11 passing while Thomas picked up 98 receiving yards and three scores. Those three receiving touchdowns gave Thomas a new career-high.

Brookhaven Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Madison-Ridgeland Academy, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Brookhaven Academy will head out to face off against Centreville Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least 31 points in their last seven contests. As for Madison-Ridgeland Academy, they are taking a road trip to square off against Simpson Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.89 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
