Basketball Recap: School Without Walls Comes Up Short

If School Without Walls was riding high fresh off their 44-11 takedown of Roosevelt last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The School Without Walls Penguins took a blow against the Banneker Bulldogs on Wednesday, falling 48-16. The loss continues a trend for the Penguins in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost seven in a row.

School Without Walls' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adeline King, who posted three points and six boards. King is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Sophie Whitaker was another key player, putting up nine points and eight rebounds.

Kylee Deskins was a one-woman wrecking crew for Banneker as she dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. That's the most points Deskins has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rainelle McNeil, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 12 points and six assists.

School Without Walls' loss dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Banneker, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

School Without Walls will square off against Woodson at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. School Without Walls' defense has only allowed 27.2 points per game this season, so Woodson's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Banneker, they will head out on the road to face off against Eastern at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
