Softball Recap: Cumberland Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Cumberland barely beat Tuscola the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates blew past the Warriors 15-5 on Thursday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.

Mia Holsapple made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jude Miller, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kinley McMechan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Cumberland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Cumberland's third in a row) raised their record to 19-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Tuscola, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season.

Cumberland will be taking part in a tournament against Teutopolis at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday. As for Tuscola, they will host Warrensburg-Latham at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
