Baseball Game Preview: Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Preston Knights

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will face off against the Preston Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Notre Dame will be strutting in after a win while Preston will be coming in after a loss.

Notre Dame barely beat Trinity Christian the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Fighting Irish never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Irish, who have now won three matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Dominick Bombardiere was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Notre Dame is undefeated when Bombardiere posts eight or more strikeouts, but 3-4 otherwise. Bombardiere was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Britain Hill was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Preston fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Lincoln on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 13-8 to the Cougars.

Bryson McNew was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Moyer, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Notre Dame's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-4. As for Preston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.
