Basketball Recap: Jefferson Comes Up Short

Jefferson lost against Steinbrenner back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Jefferson Dragons took a blow against the Steinbrenner Warriors, falling 68-28. The Dragons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-12.

Jefferson's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Amaris Dominguez, who posted 12 points, and Damaria Pitcher, who put up nine points.

Steinbrenner's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sarah Coble, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. Coble is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. Naomi Parker was another key player, going 6 of 14 on her way to 17 points along with seven assists and five boards.

Jefferson's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Steinbrenner, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Plant City at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Steinbrenner, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll square off against Academy of the Holy Names at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Steinbrenner knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Academy of the Holy Names likes a good challenge.
