To'hajiilee gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They walked away with a 74-61 win over the Mountainair Mustangs. This was payback for the Warriors, who suffered an 82-70 loss the last time these two teams met.

To'hajiilee found their leader in sophomore Omar Apachito, who posted 35 points along with six boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Khyran Guerro, who had 21 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

To'hajiilee was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountainair only posted three.

Mountainair's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Kayser, who scored 15 points. DeShawn Nieto was another key player, shooting 62% from the field to rack up 18 points.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. To'hajiilee is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Native American Community Academy/Evangel Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mountainair, they will head out to square off against Estancia at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
