Baseball Recap: Lima Central Catholic Comes Up Short

Lima Central Catholic dropped their record down to 10-13 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Fort Jennings Musketeers by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Thunderbirds have suffered since April 23rd.

As for Fort Jennings, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-8. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch.

For Fort Jennings' part, they got a massive performance out of Calvin Menke, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Menke has become a key player for the Musketeers: the team is 10-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Jarron Swick was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Lima Central Catholic and Fort Jennings are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Thunderbirds will take on St. John's at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bluejays will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Lima Central Catholic surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fort Jennings, they will face off against Kalida at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Musketeers 4, the Wildcats 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
