Preview: Mustang Broncos vs. Putnam City North Panthers

The Mustang Broncos will head out on the road to square off against the Putnam City North Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mustang knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Putnam City North likes a good challenge.

In what's become a running theme this season, Mustang gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They put the hurt on MacArthur with a sharp 58-35 win. Mustang pushed the score to 49-23 by the end of the third, a deficit MacArthur cut but never quite recovered from.

Mustang got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Parker Simonsen out in front who scored 11 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Elaina Valentin Florence, who scored 13 points.

Meanwhile, Putnam City North had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it four two weeks ago. Everything went their way against Moore as Putnam City North made off with a 65-40 victory. Given Putnam City North's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Moore is ranked 175th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mustang has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Putnam City North, their win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3.

Mustang came up short against Putnam City North in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 45-39. Can Mustang avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
