Baseball Recap: Sexton Takes a Loss

Sexton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 28 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They lost 15-0 to the Ionia Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Big Reds of the 19-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Ionia, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-5. The game marked their most dominant victory of the season.

For Ionia's part, Gaven Elvert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Elvert has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Colt Piercefield was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mason Braman, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sexton will host Eaton Rapids at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ionia, they will welcome Hastings at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
