Softball Game Preview: Polk County Wildcats vs. Tellico Plains Bears

Polk County hasn't had much luck against Tellico Plains recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Bears at 5:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Polk County is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Monday. They fell 5-1 to Copper Basin.

Mallie Evans was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Evans wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zoie Hatcher, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Tellico Plains fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against McMinn Central on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chargers. The Bears' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row.

Isabella Wright was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Polk County's record now sits at 2-11. As for Tellico Plains, their record is now 2-8.

Polk County suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to Tellico Plains in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
