Softball Recap: Ryan Raiders vs. Grand Prairie Gophers

While Ryan didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victor by a 17-3 margin over the Grand Prairie Gophers on Thursday. Considering the Raiders have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Olivia Buettner made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. She also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Ryan got a massive performance out of Kayla Martin, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Kendall Whitehill was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

The victory (which was Ryan's eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.
