Basketball Recap: Mount Airy Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Mount Airy Christian Academy extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Friday, dropping them down to 0-2. They took a 57-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Covenant Life Cougars. Mount Airy Christian Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Covenant Life apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

As for Covenant Life, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.7 points over those games.

Leading Covenant Life to victory were Elijah Hughes and Daniel Melendez. Hughes shot 50% from the field on his way to 31 points and six rebounds, while Melendez went 6-for-12 to rack up 20 points along with five boards and five steals. The matchup was Hughes' eighth in a row with at least 15 points. Yahel Arrey also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Covenant Life wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 60-50 win against Frederick W on the 6th. Hopefully Mount Airy Christian Academy paid attention to Covenant Life's contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on Covenant Life at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
