Baseball Game Preview: Dawson Eagles vs. Cinco Ranch Cougars

The Dawson Eagles will challenge the Cinco Ranch Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dawson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

While Dawson's victory against Manvel wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles won by a run and slipped past the Mavericks 3-2. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Mavericks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Bennett Schnee tossed a big game, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Maddox Botas was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Brandon Gutierrez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Cinco Ranch had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Mavericks with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Dawson's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cinco Ranch, their win bumped their record up to 14-15-1.

Dawson skirted past Cinco Ranch 7-6 when the teams last played back in March of 2021. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
