Football Recap: Coconut Creek Cougars vs. Atlantic Eagles

If Coconut Creek was feeling good fresh off their 45-6 takedown of South Broward last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars fell just short of the Atlantic Eagles by a score of 33-30 on Friday. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.

Coconut Creek's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josiah Sanchious, who threw for 149 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 118 yards on only ten carries. Jordan Thompson was another key rusher, rushing for 143 yards and one score.

Even if they lost, Coconut Creek's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Malik Lane with two.

Atlantic found their leader in sophomore Pedro Martinez, who threw for 328 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 97 yards on only eight carries. Those 328 passing yards set a new season-high mark for Martinez. Atlantic's leading receiver James Jones was Martinez's top target yet again, picking up 231 receiving yards.

Coconut Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Atlantic, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
