Football Recap: Van Buren County Wins High-Profile Contest Against Smith County

Van Buren County faced Smith County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Eagles blew past the Owls, posting a 42-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 40-0 on April 14th.

Van Buren County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Abigail Grissom led the charge by rushing for 84 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns Grissom has posted since back in March. Shaylynn Ross was another key passer, throwing for 96 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 72.2% of her passes.

The victory made it two in a row for Van Buren County and bumps their season record up to 8-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.5 points over those games. As for Smith County, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Van Buren County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 27-21 defeat against White County on the 30th. Smith County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
