Two dominant guards in Ella Pinkney and Jaycee Elzy are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lewis County Minutemen will be playing at home against the St. Albans Red Dragons at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lewis County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season.
Last Saturday, Lewis County ended up a good deal behind Charleston Catholic and lost 66-50.

Loss or not, Lewis County got some senior leadership from Pinkney and Bryn Hunt. Pinkney posted 17 points and eight boards, while Hunt went 7-for-14 to rack up 20 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hunt has scored all season. Payten Goodwin was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.
Even though they lost, Lewis County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, St. Albans came tearing into Wednesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-44 win over the Knights. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red Dragons have posted since December 28, 2024.
Lewis County better focus on containing Triniti Austin-Russell and Elzy as the pair were huge in St. Albans' win. Austin-Russell went 7-for-16 on her way to 20 points, while Elzy earned 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Austin-Russell a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelyn Vance, who scored four points in addition to seven boards and four steals.
St. Albans' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points over those games. As for Lewis County, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Lewis County has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 31.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like St. Albans struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.8 boards.
